Thinking About Exponential Growth

So, I went to visit some people this week and upon hearing how old my baby is (10 weeks), they gasped and said that my baby looks like he is 6 months old. Now, I wonder how old he is going to look when he actually is 6 months old. Will he look like a kindergartener? Will he need to shave?

Lookin' Like Dad

Anyone who may have had doubts about Garrett looking like his dad can now lay those doubts to rest. The look that Garrett is giving in this pictures is reminiscent of the look Cal gives me when he's confused about something I've said or done ("But Cal! If I buy this lipstick, I get these things FREE!")

Thank You Aunt Katie!

Dear Aunt Katie-

Thank you so much for the wonderful booties you knitted for me! Not only are they my mom's FAVORITE color, but the little bears on them are so cute! Plus, there is room for me to grow in them, which does not happen with most baby clothes! I hope you enjoy this picture of me in the booties. It took mom several tries to get it right and I exploded in frustration right after it was snapped.

I look forward to meeting you and hope we'll get together soon. Mom and Dad have been talking about getting in a trip to Madison before the summer is over. We'll keep in touch!

Love, Garrett

Is it possible to be in the 100th percentile??

We took our little guy to his 2 month appointment today and it turns out that he isn't so little! Here are his stats:

Height: 24 inches (at birth: 21 inches)
Weight: 14 lbs. 9 oz. (at birth: 8 lbs. 12 oz.)
Percentile on growth charts: 100 (which I thought was impossible!)

He is growing so fast! And our doctor has no concerns that Garrett is getting enough to eat, even though he barfs up constantly. We are still considering whether he needs some reflux medication because he seems somewhat uncomfortable when he spits up.

He had his shots today and I don't know who cried more, mom or Garrett. : (

Digestive Problems

This week, we are figuring out that our little guy has some degree of colic. It's not too bad, but it just makes him moderately cranky all day if I eat certain foods (like chocolate,...boo...). So, now that I have eliminated chocolate from my diet and added some gas reducing drops to Garrett's daily routine, he has been so much happier. It's almost like he's a completely different baby during the day. He now has lots of smiles. Originally, Cal and I thought that Garrett was just very sensitive to loud noises, new smells, visual stimulation because he would just cry over apparently no reason. Now that we are getting this figured out, it's so much easier to understand his crying out of nowhere. Plus, we are figuring out how to prevent it in the future.

Overall, I'm just happy that my little guy is feeling better.

Cooing away!

Here is a video of Garrett exercising his new found voice! I hope you can hear how sweet he sounds over my fawning and prompting!

Mama... Before She Was Mama...

I was looking through some old pictures and found this delightful thing! My girlfriends and I were on our way to Leather and Lace night at The Inferno and this was the best costuming we had ever done. I love those tights and those shoes were the most expensive I had ever bought. What a totally fun night.

One day Garrett will find this picture and I would like to think that it won't be too embarrassing for me. Right now I feel some pride. Perhaps as time takes its toll on me the pride will only increase. : )

By the way, Hillary and Heather gave no permission to have this picture posted. They look rockin', so I hope they are proud, too!

He Slept Through The Night!!

Oh, what a relief! Our little guy slept all the way through the night last night! He was super crazy fussy yesterday. Every little thing made him cry. He was sitting in my arms all quiet for a minute, I leaned down and kissed the top of his head and he started bawling! Yeah,...it was that kind of day.

Finally, Cal came home and I got a break. I went for a run downstairs and then went grocery shopping. When I came home, Small Fry was nearly asleep so I made sure he got his last feeding in, then put him down for the night at 9pm.

WE DIDN'T HEAR A PEEP OUT OF HIM UNTIL 6AM! The asskicker of it is: Cal was planning to get up to do his night feeding to give me a break. How does that guy always luck out?

Nonetheless, we are proud of Big G making the leap to such a long sleep. We are in no way expecting that all our nights will be like this from now on, but at least we know it's possible to get a full night's sleep.
